I surfisti vietnamiti hanno dalla loro una scrittura affilata e capace di tirare fuori anthem convincenti, colpiscono allo stomaco e non si nascondono dietro tentennamenti o paura di strafare, dimostrano di conoscere la materia e – soprattutto - di saperla reinterpretare in maniera personale, una qualità fondamentale se si vuole far breccia a suon di rock’n’roll dal piglio punk. Proprio la spigliatezza nello snocciolare il proprio credo finisce per avere un effetto domino sull’ascoltatore e permette ai brani di accorciare la distanza temporale con un’epoca in cui certe sonorità erano la norma e non una mosca bianca nell’oceano del pop più deleterio. Erano i tempi in non ci si sarebbe certo stupiti di ascoltare simili suoni alla radio, almeno negli States, perché si sa che qui siamo sempre stati un po’ indietro (a dirla come va detta “come le palle dei cani”). Ogni tanto emerge un pizzico di ruffianeria, di quella che getta lo sguardo oltre il confine con l’hair metal, così “Come Back” potrebbe apparire un po’ troppo zuccherosa, eppure basta l’arrivo dell’adrenalinica “Getaway Boy” per ritrovare i surfisti in grado di lasciare il segno e graffiare come non ci si aspetterebbe, a ribadire come ci si trovi di fronte ad un vero e proprio manipolo di guastatori del rock’n’roll. Ancora una volta, la Street Symphonies dimostra fiuto e intuito nello scegliere le band su cui puntare e  non faticherà certo a convincere gli amanti del genere. Al solito, è solo rock’n’roll, ma le tre stelle vanno già strette…

Heavy Sound - FRA

La Suède devient vraiment l’eldorado de bon nombre de formations Rock, Metal et même Punk, et c'est justement de ce style dont il est ici question, et nous avons affaire à de l’énergie brut de décoffrage avec l’album de VIETCONG PORNSÜRFERS répondant au doux titre de Restless, Young, Hungry and Free signé chez STREET SYMPHONIES RECORDS. Les quatre musiciens nous envoient 8 titres + 2 inédits démo, des morceaux directs et sans concession qui partent pied au plancher, et cela se vérifie d'emblée avec "The Flag Is On Fire" qui ouvre l'album de manière percutante, le second titre, "On Your Own (But Not Aone)", est tout droit sorti du même moule, le guitariste soliste Teddy remplit bien son rôle, la section rythmique est puissante, et leur chanteur / leader, Tom K., à le timbre et la hargne qui correspond parfaitement au genre affiché. "Getaway Boy" est plutôt prometteur, le solo est rageur, mention bien pour le soliste ; les deux titres démo bénéficient quant à eux d’une production maison mais l’esprit est là même si le style fait assez vintage mais pas vilain du tout. Notons également le présence de la vidéo du titre "Don't Need Your Lies" en guise de bonus. Au final nous avons là un opus très différent du Hard Rock / Metal mais débordant de sincérité et d’énergie dans le trip Punk / Garage Rock. A découvrir absolument pour les amateurs du genre.

Non ci sono segreti particolari, né troppe parole da spendere per apprezzare la musica frizzante, diretta e grintosa di questi mattacchioni scandinavi. Ignoranti come uno scaricatore di porto, chiassosi come una combriccola di guasconi, eppure grintosi e decisi come uno schiacciasassi, i Vietcong Pornsurfers hanno davvero capito tutto. Per comporre un bel disco di sano e saettante rock n’roll, non sono necessari studi universitari o cesellature da raffinati dicitori: basta lasciar scorrere l’energia, liberare l’ormone ed alzare il volume.

¿De qué va Vietcong Pornsurfers? Es una amalgama de sonidos punk bastante acelerados con el sleaze rock tan típico de Suecia. Para referenciarlos, hay que decir que algunas de sus mayores y obvias influencias son grupos como The Hellacopters y Hardcore Superstar. El disco abre con "The Flag Is On Fire", toda una declaratoria de intenciones de lo que se va a encontrar: rock sin concesiones, duro y a la cabeza. Tom K hace un gran trabajo vocal aunque en las guitarras junto a Teddy por momentos suenan algo repetitivos. "Come Back" es otro de los puntos altos del álbum, que se va desarrollando en una misma línea musical. Cabe anotar que "Restless, Young, Hungry And Free" incluye solo ocho temas, aunque también aparecen dos demos como bonus que no aportan mayor cosa al disco. La producción del disco es bastante buena. Hay que decir que estos Vietcong Pornsurfers tienen potencial y habrá que esperar lanzamientos futuros para analizar su evolución musical.

Un po’ Motörhead, un po’ Backyard Babies ed assolutamente sfacciati. È così che si presentano gli svedesi Vietcong Pornsürfers, una delle ultime band ad entrare nel roster della Street Symphonies. Otto pezzi (più due bonus) carichi di rock’n’roll sporco e selvaggio, con un vocalist alla Lemmy Kilmister e un mix di chitarre tanto rozzo quanto preciso e bilanciato che non possono non farvi fare headbanging mentre ascoltate quest’album in auto! Il disco è un crescendo di suoni dalle atmosfere punk vecchio stile ma con quel tocco heavy che lo rende quanto meno curioso e non banale. Forse ad un ascolto veloce i brani possono assomigliarsi molto l’uno con l’altro, ma non è uno di quegli album che portano alla noia dopo un paio di ascolti.

Band punk rock and roll cruda e incazzata proveniente dalla Svezia. Il moniker la dice già lunga su quel che ci aspetta: un rockaccio sporco e duro simile all'esordio dei Crue con suoni moderni e voce roca i spinosa. Disco rapido (alla fine sono solo otto brani e due demo) e diretto con ottimi spunti e riff, incisi coinvolgenti come in "On Your Own", o come nel singolo tirato e potente "Don't Need Your Lies". La produzione è abbastanza nitida e conforme agli standard che il genere richiede, e anche lo stesso prodotto si presenta curato in ogni suo aspetto. Un disco quindi piacevole nel suo comodo scorrere veloce e indolore, non porta nulla di nuovo ad un genere pesantemente inflazionato, ma non toglie nulla. Un applauso a questi ragazzi che sono riusciti a mettere insieme un prodotto onesto e ben fatto, ma nulla di più però, che sia chiaro.

Esplosivi, frizzanti e adrenalinici. I Vietcong Pornosurfers sono l’ennesima band svedese nata con  l’intento di farci alzare dalla sedia i nostri flaccidi fondoschiena e farci saltellare in giro sorridendo con aria stranita (e mi raccomando, niente pogo autolesionista contro il muro). Il loro è un punk rock che risulta convincente grazie a brani veloci e diretti come frecce, costruiti senza troppe pretese di ipertecnicismi, ma comunque ben suonati e cantati a regola d’arte. I Vietcong Pornosurfers fanno venire in mente quelle feste da fine della scuola, dove ci si dimentica delle apparenze e si pensa solo a vivere il presente senza pensieri, quelle in cui magari accade il miracolo e anche lo sfigato della classe bacia la più bella. In una parola, musica per chi si sente giovane dentro.

If this is your first "get to know Vietcong Pornsürfers", "The Flag Is On Fire" will drag you into a whirlpool of strong, fast, energetic, punk-flavored, groovy Swedish sleaze rock. You know the type, the one that doesn't require eyeliner, lipstick or even a top, just torn-up jeans, guitars closer to the ground than to their belts, and an attitude that says "Fuck you, this is us, deal with it". Needless to say, I love it to bits...After a first blow to the kidneys, it's straight on to "On Your Own (But Not Alone)". Ballad alert I thought, but quicker than I could think it, the opening riff killed that silly thought. Another raunchy rocker with perhaps a slightly elevated emotional chorus. By the way: this means exactly nothing, the title is practically the only thing that is not dirty, and this track is an equally big stomp on the nose as "The Flag Is On Fire".By this time, you'll know what this band is all about. No frills, no musical show-off moments, no melodic solos, no vocal trickery, nothing of the sorts. This is late-night bar music, high-speed car music, music to punch someone's lights out to. If you can get your greasy little hands on this one, go for it, this could be one of this years best in my opinion...

Informazione Metal - ITA

Gran bel disco, esplosivo, frizzante e direi anche adrenalinico. Questi Vietcong Pornosurfers sono l’ennesima e brillante band svedese, nata con il congruo intento di farci alzare dalla polotrona anche in modo energico, per poi farci saltellare in giro con un grande sorriso stampato sulla faccia, con le corna alzate al cielo. Il loro è un hard rock misto tra punk, street e glam, che risulta nel complesso convincente grazie a brani veloci, incisive e diretti come frecce arpionate, costruiti senza troppe pretese, con grande semplicità e privi di eccessivi ipertecnicismi, ma comunque ben suonati, di grande qualità e cantati con grande competenza.

In buona sostanza i giovanotti svedesi suonano canzoni che non danno niente di innovativo alla scena, ma nessuno lo pretende. Prestazione oltremodo dignitosa e ordinata quella dei Vietcong, impeccabili nelle semplici esecuzioni dei loro pur orecchiabili brani. Dieci canzoni, comprese due demo piazzate per il “dulcis in fundo”, ma più che un dolce, servirebbe un amaro digestivo. Tra queste dieci, sembrerà scontato, si esalta maggiormente la videoclippata “Don't Need Your Lies”, che fa trotterellare a destra e manca per coretti e ritornello ammiccante. Niente di eccelso per carità, ma un motivetto niente male per saltellare su e giù dopo abbondante dose di birra e salsicce. “A Song For Jonas” è la traccia più emozionale, che prova ad evadere verso uno stile più rock, ricordando vagamente il sound dei Social Distortion. Tra le due demo, la più interessante è “Spanish Rose”, canzoncina semplice e piacevole che meriterebbe maggior attenzione. Album abbastanza scontato, che manca di una vera hit per avere possibilità di diventare pienamente vincente; però la bravura nelle esecuzioni, l'ottima produzione, la personalità della band, lasciano spazio a più di una nota di merito.

Die VIETCONG PORNSÜRFERS bügeln einem wirklich die Schamhaare glatt! Ich habe schon lange nicht mehr so ein kraftvolles, vor Spielfreude strotzendes Stück Rock gehört. Fans von BACKYARD BABIES, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, ROSE TATTOO etc. werden diese Band abgöttisch lieben. Ich tue es jetzt schon! Gebt Eurem Rockerherzen einen Schubs, rennt zum Plattendealer und holt Euch das beste Rotz Rock Album des Jahres! Geile Songs, eine enthusiastisch spielende Band, viel Rotz, Frische, Punk und Rock 'n' Roll zeichnen „Restless, young, hungry and free" aus und es wäre einfach unfair, für diese tolle Leistung, weniger als 9 Punkte zu vergeben.

Vietcong Pornsürfers är ett band som alltid har imponerat mer live än på deras demoinspelningar. Därför är det glädjande att de på sin fullängdsdebut har kommit närmare scenupplevelsen, även om de inte riktigt är där ännu. Falugänget lirar en blandning av punk, pop och hårdare rock med klar skandinavisk prägel. Det låter lite Sator, lite Psychopunch, lite tidiga Backyard Babies och ibland får jag till och med en känsla av klassiska DAD, speciellt i den utmärkta ”Come back”. Sångaren Tom K har en skönt raspig röst som kontrasterar bra mot de bitvis väldigt melodiösa körerna. Låtmaterialet varierar mellan rättframma punkrökare och lite mer tillbakalutade melodiska inslag där det ges mer utrymme för finlir. Plattan, som ursprungligen släpptes på kassett av bandet själva i vintras, är slut på under halvtimmen om man inte räknar bonuslåtarna. En precis lagom dos när det gäller denna typ av rock’n’roll.

Behind these clichés and this strange name hides itself well a group to entire party that excellent in his style "simple and effective"! Energies, enthusiasm, melodies and precision all there is even the song between Lemmy and Zodiac! Steps big thing to say seen the already heard style thousand time, if it is only it is fresh, festive and well does! Ideal to leave to go surfing extreme between friends this summer! I HAD that when I saw the envelope and the name of the group, I expected the worse one!

The Vietcong Pornsurfers are NOT for the faint of heart, as they are unabashed punk oozing out of your speakers on a thick layer of sewer slime, putting out one of the truly sleaziest albums of 2011...so far!  If break-neck speed, shouted choruses, filthy language, scorching lead guitars, pulsating bass, and beat-to-death drums are not your thing, VCPS is not for you.  However, if you have the courage to give Restless, Young, Hungry and Free a listen, the gutterpunk in you is likely to sneer a bit, give the stereo the finger, and then crank the music even louder!

Τα τέσσερα επίθετα του τίτλου περιγράφουν πώς αισθάνονται οι δημιουργοί αυτού του άλμπουμ όσο και το σε ποιους απευθύνονται. Αν έχετε σε εκτίμηση τους συμπατριώτες τους Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, τότε αξίζει να ενδιαφερθείτε και για αυτό το κουαρτέτο. Ό,τι έχουν να πουν το λένε χωρίς περιστροφές, με ευθύτητα και έναν ήχο χαρακτηριστικό του γκαράζ όπου μπορεί να προβάρουν. Είναι καλοί σε αυτό που κάνουν, το υλικό τους δεν έχει ανάγκη περαιτέρω αναλύσεων, αξίζει όμως να σημειωθεί ότι διαθέτουν εκείνη την αναγκαία αίσθηση της φουριόζας μελωδίας που χαρακτηρίζει το είδος στο οποίο ειδικεύονται. Κρατάνε τα πράγματα απλά και όσο αντέχουν να αλητεύουν και να παίζουν, είναι πιθανό να τους γνωρίσει πολύς κόσμος. Εκτός από τα δέκα φασαριόζικα νέα κομμάτια τους σ’ αυτή την κυκλοφορία έχουν συμπεριλάβει δύο ακόμα σε demo εκτελέσεις καθώς και το βίντεο του “Don’t Need Your Lies”. Καλή παρέα.

Per farvi un idea della proposta musicale di questi quattro ragazzi, immaginate di miscelare Motley Crue (quelli più grezzi e stradaioli di Too Fast For Love), Hanoi Rocks, Poison, Swedish Erotica e Dogs D’amour. Aggiungete una bella attitudine punk (“Getaway Boy” e “Don’t Need Your Lies” su tutte), una dose massiccia di Rock N Roll e otterrete più o meno il tipo di suono che scaturisce dal cd. Il problema di fondo di questo platter è che le canzoni le abbiamo già ascoltate da anni con titoli diversi. Per farvi un esempio “A Song For Jonas” potrebbe essere una canzone a caso dei Dogs D’amour (anche perché il timbro vocale di Tom K. si avvicina molto a quello di Tyla). In definitiva posso dirvi che il cd scorre piacevolmente veloce (in effetti dura meno di 35 minuti). Le canzoni sono fresche, discretamente suonate e possiedono una buona dose di adrenalina, ma il rovescio della medaglia è la poca originalità (per essere buoni). Su tutte sceglierei “Give It All”, “Let Me In” e “Spanish Rose”, che sono quelle che possiedono un qualcosa in più. Se avete tempo e voglia di dargli un ascolto, i Vietcong Pornsurfers (mezzo voto in più per l’originalità del nome) allieteranno per una mezz’oretta la vostra giornata.

The Swedish Vietcong Pornsurfers come thundering through the speakers with rawk ‘n’ roll in the line of a combination of Gluecifer and Psychopunch, with some Wildhearts-like sleaze rock; gritty and full of energy, with the right amount of melody for a feel-good mood. Some catchy riffs and solos (which both are not put to optimal use, but you certainly can hear the capacities), and hoarse lead vocal which sounds very attractive in combination with the very harmonic background vocals. The presented work contains enough variation from full power straight ahead up-tempo punk rock to slightly more laid back with catchy harmonies, also the sound can be called direct and honest. Although this is a pleasant album, it still could use some work on the arrangements and solos because it often lacks that bit extra what Gluecifer, Psychopunch and The Wildhearts mostly have
